I originally posted a 1-star review of this item: I followed the directions precisely, but all the brownies stuck like glue!. Based on the great reviews and Amazon reputation, however, I stupidly threw away the packing list and box, never dreaming I would need to return it. My fault, totally. I posted my review and also sent a note to Amazon telling them they might want to review the product themselves as it was a complete failure. I got a very nice note back insisting that I had gotten a faulty set and they send me an RMA to return what I had and they immediately sent replacements. I was VERY skeptical, but I made another batch –AND THEY CAME OUT BEAUTIFULLY! The only difference between the two batches: the original was made per the instructions using Pam cooking spray (I used butter flavored); the second (successful) batch was made using Pam for Baking (it includes flour in the spray). Whether is was that or the original pans were somehow defective, I don’t know. Amazon, however, has reaffirmed my faith in GREAT customer service. I absolutely did not expect them to do anything for me, I just wanted them to look into the product. I am so glad they “went the extra mile,” though, because these pans make perfect little bite-size brownies. I use a #60 scoop to put the batter in, and 1 box of mix makes two trays. They are so popular I may have to buy two more trays. Way to go, Amazon! You turned a disappointing situation into a winner!

If you are going to make your own baby food, I recommend you consider the Wilton Bite-Size Brownie Mold Pan. Many of the references suggested that we use an ice cube tray for freezing baby food. We found it difficult to remove frozen food from the trays and were interested in finding a silicone product that would be suitable. Silicone can take both heat and cold and is easy to store. Even more advantageous was the fact that the frozen cubes of food could be easily popped out for storage. Once the cubes are completely frozen – it only takes a few hours – we pop them out and put them in Ziploc freezer bags. It is best to transport one pan, laying a layer of plastic wrap on the food, to the freezer on a tray and then sliding it onto the shelf. We then put the second pan, also covered in plastic wrap, on the tray and sit it on top of the first one.

The cavities of the Wilton pan hold one tablsespoon of food which is equivalent to 1/2 ounce. One can use four cubes for 1/4 cup, 8 cubes for 1/2 cup, etc. We have found that using a 700 watt microwave requires about one minute to thaw the cubes, but have also learned that it is best to stir at 30 seconds to gauge whether the frozen food might be thawed and warm enough earlier than exhausting the full minute of cooking time.

If you are looking for an excellent mold in which to freeze home-made baby food, I definitely recommend this product. I would also encourage you to purchase two trays which we have found works well since items like butternut squash will make a large amount of baby food.

I got a few of these when I planned a brownie and Ice cream party. I figured it would be nice to not have to cut out the brownies and worry that they weren’t equal in size, ’cause then of course whoever gets to choose first will pick the biggest ones and the smaller ones are left for the late comers. The idea seemed pretty ingenious and I’ve always wanted to try silicone bake-ware. I envisioned perfectly lovely brownie Sundaes.

    So . . . The reasons I only gave it 3 stars . . . .
First of all, I wish that the pans came with directions. It does have directions that they should be washed before the first use (which to me is a no-brainer) and mentions what kinds of temperatures they can handle etc . . . But there is nothing anywhere about how they should be used when actually baking.

The reason this was a problem is because I guess I filled the sections up a bit too much (about half full) and my first batch completely overflowed and so I ended up with one giant brownie that somewhat resembled a lego. So I had to cut those brownies apart anyway, and they didn’t look very pretty thus defeating the purpose of buying the pans in the first place. I added more flour to my brownie batter after that and tried not to put as much batter in the sections (about a third full) and they were better, but still rose above the edges a bit so they still weren’t as pretty as I had fist envisioned, so it needs to be noted that you barely need to put any batter into the sections. And it might depend on the consistency of your batter recipe. Needless to say these will take some experimentation before working for anybody really.

My only other complaint is that the pans are somewhat difficult to get clean after use. This may be due to the fact that I have horribly hard water in my house, and so the dishwasher seemed like it would be a bad idea so I washed these by hand, but it seemed no matter how thorough I tried to be I kept finding places I had missed while drying them and so I would have to wash them again. I think I washed them about three times in a row each and still wasn’t completely satisfied with the outcome, but gave up and decided I’d wash them again before the next use.

Hopefully this will help anyone who is thinking about buying these. I haven’t tried them for jello or ice cream molding yet, but I imagine that they will work just fine for that.
